Since iCloud Drive is not end-to-end encrypted, I am assuming that any documents stored in GoodNotes are also not end-to-end encrypted.

I don't store anything sensitive or personal in GoodNotes for this reason. GoodNotes needs to offer 100% private document storage. Either GoodNotes adds end-to-end encryption somehow, or it supports storing its document database on more secure cloud services like Sync.com.

Perhaps GoodNotes could somehow work with Cryptomator?

Personally I wish I could just tell GoodNotes to store my documents on Sync.com. Sync.com is supported on macOS, iOS and iPadOS, so I imagine integration wouldn't be that difficult.

The sidebar on GoodNotes for Mac is pretty useless. It's a total waste of screen real estate. The three options could easily be tabs or buttons somewhere else.

We need a REAL sidebar! Why can't I drag folders to the big vast empty sidebar for shortcuts?

I love GoodNotes, but the Mac version is super frustrating to use. The number of unnecessary clicks makes it a chore. Moving documents is a clunky PITA. Adding the ability to place folders in the sidebar would make a huge difference!

I'd really like for the sidebar to function as a proper file browser, but I'd settle for even simpler functionality.

I love GoodNotes and am, overall, very happy with it. I have a lot of documents stored in GoodNotes and would love a column view as well. Column view is the fastest, most efficient way to browse a folder hierarchy. Please please please add it. Thank you!
